Oak apples form when wasps gnaw beneath the surface of the leaves. This abrasion forms a burl that develops like a wooden pearl. In ancient times they were used for making ink used by medieval scribes. Among the many legends surrounding oak apples was that finding the wasp inside was a portent of good luck for the year to come.

Like the oak apple which forms a cocoon from the leaf’s affliction, our goal is to provide artwork that transmutes the difficulty of life into hope and inspiration.
